👹 Boss rounds: what happens and how to prepare

Updated 23 sept 2026

Every 3 rounds your team faces a Boss. It's where many games turn: a strong deck that arrives unprepared takes huge damage. Here's what the game does in those rounds and how to arrive ready.

When the Boss comes

officialRounds 3, 6, 9, 12 and so on (the game's round table). Rounds 4, 7 and 10 bring the Fated Gift, right after the Boss.

communityYou can check which Boss is coming by tapping the rounds in the top-left corner.

The Boss swallows your Rush Squad

officialWhen a boss is summoned, it absorbs all Rush Squad Units to increase its HP. The Rush Squads and bosses summoned have a higher HP the greater your Minions' ATK.

officialHow much of your Rush Squad HP turns into Boss HP depends on your trophy range and the round:

Trophy rangeR3 BossR6 BossR9+ Boss
0 - 9950%50%50%
100 - 19950%50%50%
200 - 99950%60%70%
1000 - 159950%65%80%
1600 - 219950%75%100%
2200+50%75%100%
At 1,600 trophies or more, the R9 Boss absorbs 100% of your Rush Squad HP, double what it absorbed on R3. The more bodies you have on board, the more units go out and the fatter the Boss gets.

confirmedEvery Minion on board sends Rush Squad units each round, temporaries included. That's why summon decks and many-copy decks fatten the Boss more.

The match clock

officialRush Squad Units deal 5 damage to the Captain, while the boss' damage increases during later rounds. And enemy HP climbs round by round, the same at every range:

Enemy HP multiplier by round
See the numbers as a table
RoundEnemy HP
R1x2
R2x2.1
R3x2.3
R4x2.6
R5x3
R6x3.5
R7x4.1
R8x4.8
R9x6
R10x8.5
R11x15
R12x25
Up to R9 HP climbs slowly (x6). Then it explodes: x8.5 on R10, x15 on R11, x25 on R12 and x50 on R13. A deck that only comes online very late races this clock.

The Bosses and what answers each one

communityBehavior comes from the game's description; the answers are what the community uses, checked against the cards' official text.

BossWhat it doesWhat answers it
Big SlimeSplits into medium, then small SlimesArea and multi-target damage
Rapid SnailSpawns with Shield and gains more; each stack blocks 1 hitMany fast hits
Terror MothLowers all your Minions' ATK, more and moreReady buffs that renew every round
Caterpillar CaptainSummons caterpillars every few secondsMulti-target

officialMuscle Melon deals 200% damage to the enemy boss (800% at 4★ in Rumble Chess): the most direct answer.

officialPop Gunner fires a volley of 4/5/6 bullets: many hits break the Rapid Snail's Shield.

officialApple Sheriff attacks 6/7/8 enemies at once, and Boom Shroom attacks all of them: good against the Slime splits and the caterpillars.

communityThe community also uses Bombercarrot, Violet Magus, Bardcore Onion and Berrinetta in these rounds.

Pre-Boss checklist

inference1. Have at least one answer on board before pressing Ready on R3. If your deck makes lots of bodies, have two.

community2. Many-body deck: merging pairs the round before the Boss (R2, R5, R8) keeps the Boss leaner. But merges can't be undone: in a deck that wants wide copies, it's a permanent trade.

inference3. Check which Boss is coming and see in the table above if your deck has the right answer for it.

Each Boss's base HP by round is on the Bosses page, and the Bosses tab of the game plan in the deck builder shows what YOUR deck has against each one.
